Artist Statement

Lily Majors

My portfolio is a personal story that explores a variety of sources of comfort, especially as it pertains to my battle with grief. Having a newfound appreciation for seemingly insignificant items and activities softens the blow of difficult times. My essential question is: how do myself and others combat inevitable times of hardship and grief? My intention through this sustained investigation is to bring attention to the little things in life and that no matter how hard things may be, there is always something worth appreciating-little pockets of joy.

Throughout my investigation, I have practiced, experimented, and revised the composition, cohesive color palette, and incorporation of portals into my works. The first work that was a catalyst for my investigation is a piece I did of my friend in front of a sunset. The way she was looking off into the distance inspired a sense of hope for the future and encouraged me to investigate sources of happiness in my own life.
